Alaska 2024: Roll 20 - Seward to Exit Glacier

We woke up and had a nice run along the water and skirted the different RV campgrounds that make up much of the downtown Seward area. I had forgotten about the campgrounds and had the chance to see many Airstreams while we ran.

I started the day off with a roll of Kodak Vision 3 250D to try and capture some of the color of the water and surrounding mountains.

Because we were early to get packed for the day we didn't run into too many people when we went back to the water to take some pictures, collect some sand, and do a bit of exploring.

The previous day had been rainy when we arrived and the afternoon was mostly spent doing laundry and folding the clean clothes.

We took some time to visit the Visitor Center for Kenai Fjords National Park and then walk around the marina a bit.

Everything was very still and quiet in the morning and you could see lovely reflections in the water with the clouds starting to break overhead, letting the sun peek in.

Our next stop for the day was in Kenai Fjords National Park to get a nice view of Exit Glacier. We stopped along the drive at a viewpoint but as you can see in the pictures, the glacier is still very distant. We had to get closer.

View of Exit Glacier

We stopped for our standard National Park sign photo and this time had little Kenai with us in the picture for her namesake National Park. We swapped cameras and the role of photographer with another tourist so that we could end up with some full group photos with the sign.

We did a quick hike out to one of the viewpoints of the glacier. You had to cross over the river that was flowing out from the base of the glacier in order to see anything closer and we weren't prepared for this kind of water so we had to settle for photos from the banks.

Even through we are many miles closer to the glacier, it is still pretty far in the distance. This isn't helped by the fact I was shooting the 30mm lens on the xpan which makes everything seem like it is at a distance.

The clouds were trying to burn off with the sun poking through from time to time giving things a nice look in the surrounding mountains.

Our next goal for the day was to travel over to Homer where we would have a boat trip the next morning. This meant traveling back the way we had come for an hour or two and then turning off on a new road. As is the fashion with Alaskan roads in the summer, there was construction.

Roadwork from Suburban

We stopped for a quick picture at Tern Lake where we turned off to head to Homer.

Lake and mountains

We stopped for lunch and to walk the girls at a gas station that also had a motel and cafe. This place was really hopping with activity.

They had a little rock shop that we also visited but didn't find anything we couldn't live without.

This ends the film for the day. We drove on to Homer with a quick stop in Kenai, Alaska to take a picture with Kenai and the sign. We went into Homer and had Indian food from a food truck that was parked in the parking lot of a meadery.

The next morning we woke up with a run in Homer, nothing great but passible sidewalks with one stretch that was still on the road. We had a lovely outing on the water but I didn't bring the film camera for photos. Next, we drove to Anchorage for the evening and I will pick up the following day when we started to head north to Denali.
