Alaska 2024: Roll 4 - Waterton Lakes National Park
Kristy, Ripley and I visited Waterton Park a few years back on a trip to Banff and Jasper National Parks. It was just 18 months after the massive Kenow Wildfire in the park so we weren't able to do or see much on that visit.
When I was planning our trip this time I wanted to make sure that we would be able to see more of the park by getting into town much earlier in the day.
You can really see the destruction of the wildfire in the bare trees all around.
We hadn't realized that the was early oil production in this part of Canada but a monument to the first well in the area allowed us to learn more about this period.
You can see how our Suburban looks with the burned landscape as a backdrop. Even though the wildfires are destructive, they do provide an interesting look into how the forest heals itself after the event.
I didn't get any shots of Cameron Lake which was at the end of the park road that we explored. The surprising thing to us Texans was that there were people taking the plunge into the water and coming up looking very cold.
We stayed the night at Bear Mountain Motel and had a nice time. The old road motel was where we stayed back in 2019 when we last visited and this time we managed to get one of the two bedroom rooms. It was nice.
We grabbed hot dogs at Wieners of Waterton and hung out in our hotel rooms while the rain fell outside.
Overall it was a great day of exploring the park.
